Our Story

When we moved near the beach a few years ago, we knew we were making a lifestyle change, but we really didn’t anticipate how we were going to view the world differently. Living on the West Coast of Florida, we were walking beaches where sea turtles laid their nests each year and vulnerable hatchlings tried to make their way safely out to sea. The ocean has a way of making you notice the splendor of life and how fragile it can be.

At the same time, it was an opportunity for us to downsize, as empty-nesters tend to do. We began purging “stuff” we had accumulated over the years to simplify the clutter in our life. It’s then we noticed just how wasteful we were. So instead of just throwing things out, we began to try to reuse or repurpose what we could to spare the landfills. We started watching how and why we bought new items and the impact of those purchases on the environment.

Climate Change, or now referred to as “Climate Heating”, is of course a hotly (no pun intended) debated topic. We believe in what the science is telling us and that this is a real issue that needs to be urgently addressed. That means making lifestyle changes to be more sustainable and to reduce our carbon footprint. For instance, driving electric vehicles (we have two) or using renewable energy (we plan on installing solar this year). In case you didn’t know already, we have a real disdain for dirty fossil fuels.

We don’t intend to push any political agenda. But at the same time, it is hard not to notice how our government is letting us down on protecting the environment, from the withdrawal from the Paris Climate Accord to reversing regulations. We need to hold our government accountable. We are inspired by so many others, like Greta Thunberg, the teenager who seems to have started a movement all on her own while taking on world leaders face-to-face.

Simply said: We want to make an ecological difference in the world. Even if a small one. Hopefully we will encourage others to make small differences along the way and those add up to real change. To that end, we are pleased to share with you: news, ideas, inspiration, products and actions you can take to help us all be a little more sustainable. Hopefully we can make a difference together.

Thank you for joining us.
